Reward Vase (Shangping)

Also known as the “Yutangchun” vase, this innovative design was first created in Jingdezhen during the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty. It features a flared mouth, a slender neck adorned with raised string patterns (xianwen), a rounded belly, and a ring foot. The neck is typically painted with blue-and-white (qinghua) banana leaf motifs, while the belly displays interlocking lotus scrolls, symbolizing “integrity and purity” (qinglian). Few original pieces from the Yongzheng period survive today, though the design continued to be produced in subsequent reigns, particularly during the Qianlong era and beyond.
