A Drumming Storyteller

The Painted Pottery Figurine of a Drumming Storyteller (Eastern Han Dynasty) is a ceramic sculpture, standing 52.5 cm tall. It was unearthed in 1957 from a cliff tomb at Tianhuishan in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and is now housed in the National Museum of Chinese History.

The “Storyteller Figurine” introduced here is one of the most representative works. In terms of its overall form, it still embodies an archaic and rustic artistic style. Clearly, the artist did not simply imitate a real-life storytelling performer but instead focused on capturing a unique charm and a vividly expressive spirit.
