Kaolin, originating from Gaoling Village in Fuliang County, Jingdezhen, has found its way into foreign languages without anyone actively advocating for it. In English, “Kaolin” refers to porcelain clay. Initially, Jingdezhen porcelain used the white, rice-like clay produced in Gaoling Village as its raw material, which was called “Gaoling Tu” (高岭土). The term “Kaolin” is a transliteration of “Gaoling.” Later, when Europeans began producing porcelain, they referred to all types of porcelain clay, regardless of their origin, as “Kaolin.”
