Flat Flask (Bianhu)

A relatively common vessel shape in ancient times, featuring two or four lugs on the sides for threading ropes to carry. Its design evolved from the leather water bags used by nomadic tribes. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it became an ornamental object, crafted with exquisite artistry. (Note the distinction from the “lying flask” and “moon-embracing vase.”)
