The General’s Jar

This vessel is named for its lid, which resembles the helmet of a general. During the Ming Dynasty, General’s Jars featured a shorter, stouter shape. By the Qing Dynasty, their design evolved: the belly tapered inward, the form became taller and more imposing, and they typically featured a flat, unglazed base.
